Open Positions

Studio Technician 

Position Type: Part-Time 

 

Pay: $21 hourly 

Days: Flexible (preferred: Monday, Tuesday: 12pm-9pm, Wednesday: 5pm-9pm, Friday: 12pm-4pm) 

Location: Studio Calmplex, Midtown East

Studio Calmplex is looking for an experienced Studio Technician to help support the daily operations of our ceramics studio. This role is ideal for a skilled potter who is passionate about wheel throwing and enjoys guiding students through the fundamentals of working with clay.

As a Studio Technician, you will play a key role in keeping the studio running smoothly and helping create a welcoming environment where people can discover the joy of making with clay.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform regular studio technician duties, including loading and unloading kilns, glazing, and clay reclaim.​

• Assist with students picking up one-day pieces. 

• Help maintain an organized, clean, and functional studio environment. 

 

Qualifications:

• Preferably minimum 1 year of studio technician experience.

Studio Admin 

Position Type: Part-Time 

 

Pay: $17 hourly 

Days: M-F (in-person preferred, open to hybrid) 

Location: Studio Calmplex, Midtown East​

 

Studio Calmplex is looking for a highly organized Studio Administrator to help support the daily operations of our ceramics studio. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, communicating with students, and helping maintain a welcoming studio environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to studio emails and inquiries from students and prospective members. 

• Manage scheduling, registrations, and general studio coordination. 

Help fill operational gaps at the studio and support staff as needed​.

Track studio sales and assist with basic financial record-keeping and reporting. 

• Assist with general administrative tasks and studio organization.

Qualifications:

• Strong organizational and time-management skills. 

• Comfortable working with numbers, tracking studio sales, and assisting with basic financial tasks

Preferred but not required: experience with spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel) and basic financial record-keeping

One-Day Wheel Throwing Class Instructor

 

Position Type: Part-Time 

 

Pay: $110 per class (2-hour duration)

 

Class Day: Thursdays & Weekends 

 

Location: Studio Calmplex, Midtown East


Studio Calmplex is looking for an experienced and engaging Wheel Throwing Class Instructor to lead our sessions. This role is perfect for a skilled potter who is passionate about the wheel and enjoys guiding students through the fundamentals of throwing. You will play a key role in creating a welcoming, hands-on learning environment where students of all levels can discover the joy of creating with clay.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach one-day wheel throwing classes in a clear and approachable manner.

• Demonstrate fundamental wheel throwing techniques, including centering, opening, pulling, and shaping.

• Provide personalized guidance and hands-on support to help students troubleshoot and improve their form on the wheel. 

• Foster a fun, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment for all students. 

Ensure the studio space and wheels are kept clean and organized after classes.

 

Qualifications:

• Previous teaching experience, with a focus on making ceramics accessible and enjoyable.
• Strong wheel throwing skills (a demo class is required during the hiring process).
• Familiarity with Eastern pottery techniques. We primarily teach throwing in a clockwise direction and practice throwing off the hump. Candidates who are comfortable teaching in this style, or are open to adapting to it, are highly preferred.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to different experience levels.
• Passion for ceramics and a collaborative approach to teaching.
